International webinar series – research writing and publishing

AuthorCafé hosted an international webinar series with speakers who are experts in academic research and scholarly communication. The 3-day webinar series was hosted from 7th to 9th July, 2020

Prof (Dr) Ramesh C. Gaur, Dean & Head, Kala Nidhi, IGNCA, New Delhi was the webinar chair. Dr Nirmala P. Ratchagar, Professor & Dean, Annamalai University, Dr M. S. Michael, Associate Professor, SSN Engineering College, and Dr T. M. Sridhar, Associate Professor, University of Madras, were our special guests at the webinar.

Day 1:

Dr Shanthi Krishnamoorthy, President, AuthorCafé gave the welcome note followed by Professor Gaur, who delivered the inaugural address and set the context for the day. Dr K. K. Venkitachalam, Editor & Peer Reviewer, Enago conducted a lively session on ‘How to benefit most from research publishing’ which engaged the audience with attendees asking many questions. Prof (Dr) S. R. S. Prabaharan, Director Research, SRM University spoke about the ‘Current environment in Indian academic research’.

Dr Parveen Babbar, Deputy Librarian, JNU presented case studies on Turnitin, iThenticate & Grammarly, and Dr Neeraj Kumar Singh, Deputy Librarian, Panjab University presented a case study on Urkund.

Day 2:

The first session Mapping & maximising academic visibility & impact of research output was delivered by Dr Nabi Hasan, Librarian & Head, Central Library, IIT Delhi. He discussed citation analysis, marketing research work, tools and sites to increase academic and research visibility among other topics.

Dr Sanjeev K. Sunny, Deputy Librarian, IIT Roorkee presented a case study on Mendeley while Mr D. P. Tripathi, NIT, Rourkela presented a case study on CrossRef & Zotero.


Day 3:

The day began with Dr Sanjay Kataria, University Librarian, Bennett University presenting a case study on data repositories. He covered topics like research data, data types, how to manage research data, what is research data management, and managing stakeholders involved.

This was followed by Dr Shri Ram, Deputy Librarian, TIET on the ‘Impact beyond citations analysis: a case of Publons & Altmetrics’. He explained how there are alternative metrics to see the impact of research. Ms Andrea Powell, Director, Research4Life & International STM Association and Mr Rob Johnson, Director, Research Consulting Ltd, UK introduced Research4life to the audience. Their presentation on the Research4life landscape analysis provided the audience with valuable insights. This was followed by Dr Shri Ram Pandey, Assistant Professor, BHU whose topic of discussion was ‘Google Scholar for research assessment’ covering search techniques, and how to cite and write reviews using google scholar
